Hi Tiffany, Thank you for your enquiry. As with most boosters, this seat has the option of breaking down to the seat and back portion for transport or travel. This is achieved by the seatback going backward to separate the 2 parts rather than forward in the way it would ‘crush’ a child in an impact. Your seatbelt locking on you may be caused by having automatic locking retractor seat belts. If you are able to not extend the belt out to its full length when putting it on your child but rather just pull out the length that you need, this will avoid the auto locking mechanism from engaging.
